Here's an interesting site for those interested in early American folk music: Fiddle Tunes of the Old Frontier: The Henry Reed Collection. Henry Reed was a fiddler born in 1884 in Monroe County, Virginia, and this site contains music recorded when he was over 80. The site says, "the tunes represent the music and evoke the history and spirit of Virginia's Appalachian frontier." There are 184 recordings plus essays on Henry Reed, field notes, transcriptions of the music, links, and a glossary.
